Types of Saudi Visa for UK Citizens

There are three main options for UK passport holders visiting Saudi Arabia for short stays: the ETA, e-visa, and electronic visa waiver.

Going for Umrah? We can apply for everyone's Saudi ETA and book hotels close to the Haram. Send us your dates and who is travelling.

Saudi eVisa (Tourist Visa)

The eVisa is the most popular option for UK travellers. Key details include.

Saudi eVisa at a Glance

Valid for 365 days from the date of issue. Multiple entry - you can enter and leave Saudi Arabia as many times as you like within the validity period. Maximum stay of 90 days in total across the full year. Includes mandatory health insurance for the duration of your visit. Available online before travel or on arrival at any Saudi international airport.

Processing is fast - most eVisa applications are approved within 24 to 48 hours, though many travellers report receiving approval within minutes. It is always recommended to apply at least a few days before travel to allow for any unexpected delays.

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

The newest option for British citizens is the Saudi Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which is an additional option alongside the electronic visa waiver (EVW). The newest option for British citizens is the Saudi Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which is an additional option alongside the electronic visa waiver (EVW). It covers tourism, business, study, medical treatment and Umrah outside the Hajj season (with the Umrah permit where one is needed). It cannot be used for work or Hajj.

It is valid for 2 years (730 days) with multiple entries, for a total of up to 180 days across the 730-day period. It usually takes 1 to 3 working days. Every traveller needs their own application, children included. It does not include health insurance, so you will need to arrange your own travel insurance. What Documents Do You Need?

For the Saudi eVisa, the document requirements are minimal compared to many other visa applications. You will need.

A valid UK passport with at least 6 months validity from your date of arrival. A recent passport-sized photograph meeting eVisa standards. A valid debit or credit card to complete the online payment. That is it - no bank statements, no employment letters, no hotel bookings required for the eVisa application itself.

Important: Your passport must have at least 6 months validity from your date of arrival in Saudi Arabia. If your passport expires sooner, you will need to renew it before applying. Also note that you may be refused entry if your passport shows previous travel to Israel.

How Long Does It Take?

The Saudi eVisa is one of the fastest visa processes available. Standard processing takes 24 to 48 hours, but many applications are approved much faster than that - sometimes within minutes of submitting.

The ETA usually takes 1 to 3 working days, so apply in good time.

While processing is generally very quick, we always recommend applying as early as possible. If you are planning to travel during Ramadan, our Ramadan Umrah 2026 guide covers everything you need to know.

Vaccination Requirements

Saudi Arabia has specific vaccination requirements depending on your reason for travel. If you are performing Umrah, or working as a seasonal worker, you must have a valid meningococcal quadrivalent (ACWY) vaccination certificate.

If you are arriving from a country listed as a yellow fever transmission risk, you will also need a yellow fever vaccination certificate.

It is recommended to visit your GP or a travel health clinic at least 4 to 6 weeks before departure to ensure all vaccinations are up to date.

Important Rules to Know

Saudi Arabia has strict customs and legal rules that all visitors must be aware of before travelling.

Alcohol is strictly prohibited - you cannot bring any alcohol into the country. Pork and pork products are also banned. Saudi Arabia follows Islamic law, and visitors must respect local customs, traditions, and dress codes. Public demonstrations are illegal. Overstaying your visa can result in heavy fines, detention, and deportation - and you could be banned from returning.

If you hold Saudi nationality alongside your British passport, Saudi law may apply to you differently.

Visa on Arrival

UK passport holders are eligible for a visa on arrival at any of Saudi Arabia's international airports. However, we always recommend applying online before travel. This avoids any queues or delays at the airport and means you have your visa confirmed before you even board your flight.
