Flights to Pakistan from the UK - Routes, Airlines, Prices & Tips (2026)
Pakistan is one of the most popular long-haul destinations from the UK, with large British Pakistani communities in cities like Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford, and London making regular trips to visit family. Whether you're flying from a major hub or a regional airport, understanding the routes, airlines, and seasonal pricing can save you hundreds of pounds.
Direct Routes from the UK
Direct flights to Pakistan from the UK operate exclusively from London Heathrow. There are currently no direct services from Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, or any other UK airport.
London Heathrow to Islamabad (ISB) — this is the busiest and most competitive route. PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) operates regular direct flights, and British Airways runs services on this route as well. Flight time is approximately 7 to 8 hours eastbound and slightly longer on the return due to prevailing winds. This route typically offers the cheapest direct fares due to competition between carriers.
London Heathrow to Lahore (LHE) — PIA operates direct flights to Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore. Flight time is similar to the Islamabad route at around 7.5 to 8 hours. Frequencies are lower than the Islamabad route, which can mean slightly higher prices during peak periods.
London Heathrow to Karachi (KHI) — direct flights to Jinnah International Airport in Karachi are available but run less frequently than the Islamabad and Lahore services. Karachi-bound travellers often find better availability and pricing on connecting flights through Gulf hubs.
Direct flights are the fastest option but not always the cheapest. During peak periods, connecting flights through the Middle East can be significantly cheaper than direct services, sometimes by several hundred pounds.
Connecting Routes from Manchester
Manchester Airport is the primary departure point for travellers in the North of England, and while there are no direct flights to Pakistan, the connecting options are excellent. Several major Gulf carriers operate daily services from Manchester with convenient onward connections to Pakistani cities.
Emirates via Dubai (DXB) — one of the most popular choices for Manchester travellers. Emirates operates multiple daily flights from Manchester to Dubai, with onward connections to Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar. The Dubai stopover is typically 2 to 4 hours, and the total journey time ranges from 11 to 14 hours. Emirates offers generous baggage allowances, which is a significant advantage for travellers visiting family who are typically carrying gifts and supplies.
Qatar Airways via Doha (DOH) — another strong option with excellent connections. Qatar Airways flies from Manchester to Doha with onward services to multiple Pakistani cities. Doha's Hamad International Airport is modern and well-designed for transit passengers. Qatar Airways is consistently rated among the world's best airlines for service quality.
Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi (AUH) — Etihad operates from Manchester to Abu Dhabi with connections to Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. Pricing is often competitive, and Abu Dhabi's terminal facilities have been significantly upgraded in recent years.
Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (IST) — frequently the cheapest connecting option from Manchester. Turkish Airlines operates daily flights to Istanbul with extensive onward connections to Pakistan. Istanbul Airport is a major hub with good transit facilities, though connection times can sometimes be longer than the Gulf options.
Saudi Airlines via Jeddah or Riyadh — less commonly used for Pakistan travel specifically, but worth checking if you find competitive pricing. Saudia operates from Manchester via its Saudi hubs to Pakistani destinations.
Total journey time on connecting routes from Manchester is typically 11 to 16 hours depending on the airline and stopover duration. Most travellers find that a 2 to 3 hour layover is the sweet spot — long enough to be comfortable without adding excessive time to the journey.
Connecting Routes from Birmingham
Birmingham Airport offers many of the same connecting options as Manchester, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines services. For travellers in the Midlands, Birmingham is typically more convenient, though Manchester sometimes offers lower fares due to higher competition between airlines.

Seasonal Pricing — When to Book
Flight prices to Pakistan vary dramatically throughout the year. Understanding these patterns can save you hundreds of pounds per ticket.
Cheapest periods (off-peak): February, March, September, October, and November. These months have the lowest demand from UK travellers, and return fares can be found from around £350 to £500 on connecting routes. Direct flights during these periods range from approximately £450 to £650 return.
Most expensive periods (peak): July, August, and December are consistently the most expensive months. These coincide with UK school summer holidays and the Christmas/New Year period, when demand from British Pakistani families peaks. Return fares during July and August regularly exceed £700 to £1000, with direct flights sometimes reaching £1200 or more.
Eid periods: flights around Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are always in high demand and priced accordingly. Because Eid dates shift each year following the Islamic calendar, the impact on flight pricing varies. When Eid falls during school holidays, the effect is compounded and prices can be exceptionally high. Book at least 2 to 3 months in advance for Eid travel.
Ramadan: the weeks leading up to Ramadan and the days immediately after Eid al-Fitr see elevated demand. However, the Ramadan period itself can offer reasonable pricing as fewer people travel mid-fast.
As a general rule, booking 6 to 8 weeks before departure gives the best balance between price and availability for most travel periods. For peak summer and Eid travel, 10 to 12 weeks ahead is advisable.
Tips for Getting Better Prices
Be flexible with dates. Shifting your departure by even 2 to 3 days can make a substantial difference in pricing, particularly around peak periods. Mid-week flights (Tuesday, Wednesday) are often cheaper than weekend departures.
Compare airports. If you're based in the North West or Midlands, check prices from Manchester, Birmingham, and London. Sometimes the fare difference between airports is large enough to justify the extra travel to a different departure point. A train to London Heathrow from Manchester costs approximately £50 to £80 return — if the flight is £300 cheaper from Heathrow, the maths works clearly in your favour.
Check baggage allowances carefully. Cheap fares often come with restricted baggage. If you're visiting family, you're almost certainly carrying extra luggage — gifts, supplies, and shopping. A fare that looks cheap but charges £80 per extra bag each way is not actually cheap. Some airlines and fare classes include generous baggage (Emirates is notable for this), and a travel agent can often negotiate better baggage terms as part of the booking.
Consider a travel agent for complex bookings. For straightforward point-to-point returns, online booking is fine. But for family groups, multi-city itineraries (for example, flying into Islamabad and out of Lahore), or bookings requiring extra baggage or specific seat arrangements, a travel agent often gets better results. Agents have access to trade fares and consolidator rates that aren't available on public-facing comparison sites. For groups of 4 or more, the savings can be substantial.
Don't forget your visa. If you're travelling on a British passport, you'll need a visa to visit Pakistan and must apply in advance, so apply well before your flight date. There's no point booking a cheap flight if your visa isn't ready in time.
